“Voted Aye on directing staff to write a zoning code amendment stripping data centers of by-right development on CI-2 industrial land”

The Board voted 4-1 to direct Development Services Department staff to initiate a zoning code text amendment that would require additional review and public processes for data centers and other large-scale users of water and electricity on CI-2 zoned industrial parcels. Supervisor Christy voted no. Note: the county's own August 11, 2026 meeting summary dates the initiation of the zoning code text amendment process to a Board vote in September 2025, so this August 18, 2025 direction may be a precursor to, rather than the same action as, the process later cited for the 2026 moratorium.
