“Voted Aye on the motion to deny initiation of the Dulles South Innovation Center comprehensive plan amendment, a ~1,940-acre data center campus in Prince William County”
After a five-hour public hearing, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted 8-0 to deny initiation of a comprehensive plan amendment that would have re-designated roughly 252 parcels totaling about 1,940 acres in the Gainesville Magisterial District from Agriculture and Forestry and Mixed-Use Hamlet to Industrial (I-3), opening the land to the data center campus marketed as the Dulles South Innovation Center or "Dulles Cloud South." County staff had recommended against initiation, citing inadequate public water, sewer and transportation capacity, environmental impacts, loss of rural character, and incompatibility with surrounding Agriculture and Forestry lands. The motion to deny was made by Supervisor Stewart and seconded by Supervisor Gordy. Because the board refused to initiate the amendment, the proposal never advanced to a formal rezoning application. Outcome: Adopted 8-0. Initiation of the comprehensive plan amendment was denied, stopping the ~1,940-acre data center campus proposal. Recorded vote: Aye. Body: Prince William Board of County Supervisors. Measure: CPA2026-00012 (Res. No. 26-442).
